13th Meeting of the ad hoc Panel on
European Phytosanitary Measures for Potato
Vienna, 2006-02-21/23
The ad hoc Panel on European Phytosanitary Measures for Potato held its 13th meeting in Vienna on 2006-02-21/23 at the kind invitation of Mr S. Bernkopf. Thanks are due to him, Mrs Bluemel and their colleagues for their hospitality and the excellent organization of the meeting. The Panel reviewed the comment from country consultation on the following standards:
- Meloidogyne chitwoodi and M. fallax: sampling and identification
- Export certification and import compliance checking for potato tubers
They will be presented to the Working Party on Phytosanitary Regulations for approval. The Panel carried on its work on other draft standards and decided to send some for country consultation:
- Phytosanitary procedure on general crop inspection procedure
- Testing of potato cultivars to assess partial resistance to Globodera pallida and G. rostochiensis
- Disinfection procedure
- National regulatory control system for Synchytrium endobioticum
The Panel considered that the work on Globodera rostochiensis and G. pallida should be delayed.
The Panel discussed the outcomes of the EPPO Workshop on Synchytrium endobioticum, and its impact on future EPPO activities on this disease. Issues arising from discussion with NAPPO on the draft Guidelines for Regulating Potato Micropropagation Material and Minitubers in Trade between EPPO and NAPPO countries were discussed. The participants concluded that the requirements on test methods to establish pest freedom could not be lowered. Future work on the EPPO-NAPPO Standard will be decided by the Working Party. The Panel studied a contingency plan for potato ring rot, and considered that such standards are very useful for NPPOs of EPPO countries. Contingency plans will be further discussed at the next Panel meeting.
