11th Meeting of the Panel on Efficacy Evaluation of Herbicides
and Plant Growth Regulators

Paris, 2012-03-20/22

The 11th Meeting of the Panel on Efficacy Evaluation of Herbicides and Plant Growth Regulators took place at the EPPO Headquarters, in Paris, on 2012-03-20/22.

The Panel continued its main work on the preparation of standards for conducting field trials to evaluate the efficacy of herbicides and plant growth regulators. A number of revised standards were completed and considered ready for country consultation:

  • Weeds in grapevine (PP1/64)
  • Regulation of growth in grapevine (except sucker control) (PP1/171)
  • Control of suckers in hop (PP1/162)

To reflect the outcomes of the EPPO Workshop on Zonal Efficacy Assessments and the implementation of the new EC Regulation 1107/2009, a number of general standards were also reviewed to address herbicide and PGR specific issues. This included the new standard entitled Principles of zonal data production and evaluation. Substantive amendments were made to most of the standards with an exception of PP1/152 Design and analysis of efficacy evaluation trials and PP 1/181 Conduct and reporting of efficacy evaluation trials.  The Panel were satisfied that the standards should be circulated for country consultation:

  • Control of suckers in hop (PP1/162)
  • Principles of zonal data production and evaluation (PP1/NEW)
  • Dose expression for plant protection products (revision PP1/239)
  • Number of efficacy trials (revision PP1/226)
  • Minimum effective dose (revision PP1/225)
  • Introduction to the efficacy evaluation of plant protection products (revision PP1/223)
  • Principles of acceptable efficacy (revision PP1/214)
  • Design and analysis of efficacy evaluation trials (PP1/152)
  • Conduct and reporting of efficacy evaluation trials (PP1/181)

The Panel also discussed in detail, other important topics, including extrapolation possibilities to support minor uses, and the forthcoming EPPO Workshop on Herbicide Resistance Analysis in the framework of Zonal Evaluation.
