20th Meeting of the Panel on General Standards

Paris, 2020-03-11/13

The EPPO Panel on General Standards on Efficacy Evaluation met at the EPPO headquarters on 2020-03-11/13. The Panel continued its work on the preparation of General Standards on efficacy evaluation.

New and revised Standards

The meeting focused on a new General Standard and two proposals for revision of General Standards:

  • PP1/NEW General principles for Efficacy Evaluation of Plant Protection Products with a mode of action as Plant Defence Inducers. The specifications for this Standard were approved by the EPPO Working Party on Plant Protection Products in 2019. Initially the title ‘Efficacy evaluation of plant elicitors’ was proposed, but then the title was changed as term ‘plant defence inducers’ is more frequently used by the research community. This Standard was prepared by an ad hoc Expert Working Group. The Panel recommended the draft Standard for country consultation.

  • Revision of EPPO Standard PP 1/307 Efficacy considerations and data generation when making changes to the chemical composition or formulation type of PPPs. The Standard PP 1/307 was adopted in 2018. However, the Working Party on Plant Protection Products in 2019 recommended a revision to make it clear that changes in the content of the active substance are outside the scope of the Standard. The Panel recommended the draft revision for country consultation.

Other issues

The Panel discussed in what way EPPO works should focus on integrated pest management (IPM) as well as the methodologies used to assess the effects of plant protection products on transformation processes.

The next meeting of the Panel on General Standards on Efficacy Evaluation will take place in March 2021.
