3rd and 4th Meetings of the Expert Working Group for the Extrapolation Database

Teleconference, 2022-05-19 and Brussels, 2022-10-18/19

The EPPO extrapolation tables, to be used in conjunction with EPPO Standard PP 1/257 Efficacy and crop safety extrapolations for minor uses , provide detailed lists of acceptable extrapolations. These extrapolations are organized by crop groups or pest groups and have been developed for regulatory authorities and applicants in the context of the registration of plant protection products for minor uses. These tables are available on the EPPO website.

The Expert Working Group (EWG) for the extrapolation database met by teleconference, on 2022-05-19 and in Brussels on 2022-10-18/19. Thanks are due to the Belgian Federal Public Service for Health, Food Chain Safety and Environment for hosting the meeting, providing excellent facilities, and for organizing a very interesting and informative technical visit to BIGH Aquaponic Farm .

The EWG continued to develop a searchable database based on the published extrapolation tables. This database will make the information published in the tables more accessible for the users. The work includes reviewing and improving the content of the table. Representatives of the Minor Uses Coordination Facility (MUCF)  are regularly involved in the EWG discussions to explore options for cooperation between MUCF and EWG for this future EPPO database.

The prototype of the database developed by the EPPO Secretariat was studied at the meetings and was further refined by the EWG. This prototype is now filled in with information from all published tables. During the meetings, the EWG formulated recommendations on how the database should be finalized and began reviewing the content and the consistency of the database. The work carried out by the EWG on PPP data harmonization, on crop groups  in particular, has been taken into consideration to improve consistency among the tables.

The EWG for the extrapolation database will next meet by teleconference in February and May 2023. A face-to-face meeting is also planned in October 2023 to ensure progress. The outcome of the EWG meetings will be presented to the EPPO Panel on General Standards for Efficacy Evaluation which oversees the activities of this EWG.
